Description
Flaxlands is a house dating from the mid-18th century, constructed from coursed limestone rubble with quoins. It features an ironstone storey band, lintels, and coped gables, topped with a slate roof that has stone bases for the end stacks, one of which has a brick flue. The building is two storeys plus an attic and has a three-window range with an L-shaped plan. The central part-blocked doorway has a 20th-century window insertion above it, with a lintel that includes a keyblock. On the ground floor, to the left and right, as well as on the first floor, there are 19th and 20th-century single cross casements, each with their own lintels and keyblocks. Attached to the left is a stone outbuilding range, which has been partly rebuilt in brick. Inside, there is an open fireplace with a chamfered bressumer and a brick-lined oven, as well as an inglenook with a chamfered bressumer. The interior also features spine beams with ogee stops and stone flagged floors in the hall. It is said to retain its original roof timbers.
