Description

The Old Manor and Hersey Manor are now two dwellings housed in a building that dates from the late 17th century to early 18th century, with alterations made in 1860 and a large wing added in 1850. The structure is built of coursed squared stone and rubble stone, featuring stone dressings and a small section of buff brick, topped with plain-tile roofs that have brick and stone ridge and end stacks.

The building consists of two ranges: the left range, known as Hersey Manor, is the earlier L-plan section with a wing projecting to the left. This range is two storeys high, part with an attic, and has a four-window arrangement overall. It features two paired 2-pane sash windows above a part-glazed door with an overlight, along with another 2-pane sash and a similar paired sash. The projecting wing gable has a similar sash on both floors, and an attic gable made of buff brick, dated FM 1860, which includes a 2-light stone-mullioned window.

On the right side, the 19th-century dormer has a similar window, and there is a bell-cote and stack on the ridge. The left end of the building has an arcade that was once part of a 19th-century service wing, which was demolished in the 1970s. At the rear of the left range, there are glazing-bar sashes, a 3-light casement, and a stepped buttress reaching up to the eaves level, all set in stuccoed walls.

The right range features a projecting porch with a datestone from 1850 and a part-glazed door. The large side has a gable on the right, stone-mullioned windows with hood moulds, and a tiled porch at the angle. The gables are stone-coped with kneelers. The interior of The Old Manor has not been inspected, but Hersey Manor includes an open fireplace, some reset 18th-century panelling, and a brick-vaulted cellar.
