SP16SE STRATFORD ROAD 1457-1/5/178 (North side) 18/03/97 Gate Lodge approx. 200m south-west of Wootton Hall

GV II

Lodge. 1906 for Mr Hughes. Sandstone ashlar with Welsh slate roof. Late Neo-Classical style. Symmetrical design. EXTERIOR: single storey, single bay with pedimented gable end to front, 3 windows wide. Full-height tetrastyle Ionic portico on plinths with frieze and cornice which continues around the building; pediment contains carved coat of arms. 3 steps to central 6-panel door with surround of Doric pilasters, frieze and pediment. To either side a 6-light casement window in tooled surround with splayed shoulders and pediments. Returns (alike): moulded plinth. Central oculus with scrolled surround between 6/6 sashes within tooled surrounds with splayed shoulders and pediments. Wide eaves on modillions. Rear as front. Central stone ridge stack with double stepped cornice. INTERIOR: not inspected. All the listed items on the Wootton Hall Estate (Wootton Park) form a group; also forms a group with Church of St Peter (qv). (Cooper W: Wootton Wawen, its history and records: Leeds: 1936-: 40).
