Description

A row of three cottages, Oak Cottage, Middle Cottage, and Curly Vale, located on King's Coughton Lane, King's Coughton. The cottages date primarily to the 17th century, with later alterations and a 20th-century addition. Their construction is timber-framed, with roughcast brick facing from the 18th and 19th centuries and a brick dentil cornice. Curly Vale is faced in whitewashed brick. The roofs are tiled, and there are brick ridge stacks.

Oak Cottage and Middle Cottage each feature a single-unit plan, while Curly Vale has a two-unit plan. The cottages are one storey and attic in height, with a four-window front. Late 20th-century doors are present. An addition houses the entrance to Oak Cottage. Middle Cottage has a plank door under a segmental arch, while Curly Vale has a 20th-century glazed porch and door. Windows are primarily 19th- and 20th-century casements, some with glazing bars. Certain windows have segmental or cambered arches over them.

The interior of Middle Cottage features an exposed timber frame with lath and plaster infill on the rear wall. There is an open fireplace and winder stairs. The first floor is reported to have flagstones, and the original roof structure remains. The cottages have undergone extensive additions to the left, right and rear.
