Description

Laurel Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from around 1660, with some alterations made in the 19th century. It is constructed of regularly coursed ironstone and features a slate roof with coped gable parapets, moulded kneelers, and finials. The building has a three-unit through-passage plan and is two storeys high, with a cellar and attic, presenting a three-window range on the entrance front. This front includes a 19th or 20th-century open porch and an old plank door inside. The windows are mostly 19th or 20th-century casements set under stone flat arches, with a three-light window to the left of the entrance and a two-light window on the first floor. There is a late 20th-century single-storey addition on the left side, and no windows are present to the right of the entrance. A stone internal stack has a 20th-century brick shaft, and there is a 19th-century single-storey addition to the left. The right return side features two two-light stone-mullioned cellar windows, along with three-light and two-light attic windows that were formerly stone mullioned. On the ground floor, the mullions have been removed and replaced with casements, while the first floor and attic have had their mullions replaced with painted wood. Hood moulds are present throughout the building, and the apex of the gable has an oval sunk panel, possibly a datestone. The rear of the farmhouse has a four-window range, a flush six-panelled door, and a 19th-century open-fronted wooden porch, with casements and stone flat arches. The interior has not been inspected.
