Description

This is an early 18th-century farmhouse with an attached dairy and barn range, located on Pool Head Lane, Forshaw Heath. The farmhouse was altered in the 18th and 19th centuries, including raising the eaves, likely in the late 18th or early 19th century. It is constructed of timber framing with red brick, some areas of which are pebbledashed and whitewashed, and has a gabled plain-tile roof and brick stacks. The building is arranged in an L-shape with a three-unit plan.

The exterior has two storeys and a three-window front. A 20th-century door is located to the left of centre within an open gabled wooden porch. The ground floor windows comprise a three-light casement to the left and two 20th-century replacement windows to the right, set in enlarged openings. The first floor has three three-light casements. There is a ridge stack in the centre and a stack at the right end, along with an extension and projecting stack on the left end. The truss is visible in the left gable-end, revealing the raising of the front eaves. The rear retains the original roof pitch.

Attached to the rear are wings, and an 18th-century brick barn, noted for having an original first floor but a 20th-century roof, now fitted with five Velux windows.

The interior features an open fireplace and deep, chamfered spine beams with run-out stops. The roof structure is a queen strut roof, with tie beams cut to accommodate the raising of the front roof. There is a dairy containing stone thrawls. The farmhouse forms a group with a nearby granary.
