Description

Low Thatch is a house located in Weston-on-Avon, dating back to the 15th century, with a 16th-century addition on the left side and later alterations. The building is constructed of brick with some internal timber-frame elements and features a thatched roof with two brick stacks positioned at the rear of the ridge. It has a three-unit plan.

The exterior is single-storey plus attic, with a two- plus three-window arrangement. The left part of the house has an entrance at the right end, featuring a split door in a pegged frame and a hipped thatch canopy. To the left of the entrance, there are two windows with small-paned casements that include iron opening lights, and an eyebrow dormer with a similar four-light casement. The right part has an entrance at the left end, which also has a split door in a pegged frame. There are three windows here, with the central window being a two-light 20th-century small-paned casement, a three-light casement to the left, and a two-light casement to the right, both of which have iron opening casements. The eyebrow dormer on this side has a tile sill and a small-paned casement. The right return features a segmental-headed window on each floor.

The interior has not been inspected, but it is recorded as having timber-frame and cob inner walls, exposed beams, substantial remains of a cruck truss, and two fireplaces with bressumers. There are also some old doors with strap hinges.
