Description

Concrete Block Cottage is an estate house built in 1906 by Gilbert Fraser of Liverpool for John Lancaster, with the date noted on the rainwater head. The cottage features concrete blocks that imitate rockfaced stone and tooled ashlar, all painted. It has a hipped plain tile roof with two coped ridge stacks and rockfaced quoins. The building is two storeys plus attics and has a symmetrical front with a central half-glazed door flanked by single lights, and pairs of 2-light windows beyond. Above this, there are similar windows arranged in a pattern of 2/1/2, and a box dormer with three lights. The windows are glazing bar casements, and all external joinery appears to be original. At the rear, there is a single storey flat-roofed projection with a 4-light window, and above it, two windows with 1 and 2 lights. The interior is not accessible, but major elements seem to be intact.
