Description
The Inner Lodge at Dunchurch Lodge Estate is a lodge to a country house, built in 1908 by Gilbert Fraser of Liverpool for John Lancaster. It is constructed of red brick with Stanton stone dressings and features a pyramidal Westmoreland slate roof with a coped ridge stack and quoins. The building is two stories tall and has a square plan.
The front elevation includes a stone doorcase with pilasters and a moulded segmental hood that covers a recessed half-glazed door with sidelights. To the left of the door, there is a four-light window, and above it, a through-eaves box dormer with three lights. The right side of the building has a single-light window on each floor, and to the right, there is a three-light window, with a four-light dormer above. The rear elevation features a two-light window on the ground floor, and above it, a dormer with a central panel displaying the monogram JL (for John Lancaster) and the date 1908, flanked by three-light windows on each side. The left side has a single window and attached outbuildings and yard.
Inside, the main ground floor rooms have cornices and one original fireplace with an eared architrave and cornice. The dogleg staircase features a square newel post and triple stick balusters. The plain first-floor rooms retain original three-panel doors.
