Description
Lavender Furlong is a house that dates from the 17th century or earlier, with some rebuilding and alterations from the 19th century and further changes in the early 20th century. The front of the house, which may be timber framed, features colourwashed roughcast, while the rear displays some exposed timber framing with infill, underbuilding, and rebuilding in colourwashed brick. The thatched roof includes a 19th-century brick gable parapet with a kneeler on the left side, along with 20th-century brick end stacks and a rendered ridge stack.
The house has a 4-unit plan, is one storey high with an attic, and has a three-window range. There is a lean-to across the third and fourth bays that has a slate roof, and a 20th-century addition beyond it. The entrance, located in the second bay, features a leaded part-glazed six-panelled door with a 19th-century moulded wood surround that includes pilaster strips and a shallow hood. The early 20th-century casements, which have glazing bars, consist of three lights on the ground floor and two lights on the swept dormers. The irregular rear side has a 19th-century plank door and some 19th-century casements, as well as an early 20th-century shallow gabled wing on the left. Inside, the house has some exposed beams and is said to have an open fireplace.
