Description

Red Rose Cottage and The Shambles are a pair of cottages dating from the mid to late 18th century, with alterations made in the 20th century. They are constructed of whitewashed brick, with thatched roofs and brick left end and ridge stacks. Red Rose Cottage (No.26) is a single-unit cottage, while The Shambles (No.27) is a two-unit cottage.

Red Rose Cottage is a single-storey and attic building with a one-window front. It has a plank door set within a thatched rustic porch. A four-light casement window occupies an enlarged opening, with a painted wood lintel replacing the original. To the right is an older two-light casement window with glazing bars. A central eyebrow dormer contains a two-light casement with a horizontal glazing bar.

The Shambles is a single-storey and attic building with a two-window front. A later 20th-century thatched porch shelters double-leaf plank doors. The ground-floor windows are two-light casements from the late 20th century, set within brick segmental arches, and have glazing bars. An eyebrow dormer and a truncated swept dormer both contain two-light casements with cross glazing. The interiors were not inspected.
