Description

Three Roofs Cottage consists of two cottages that are part of a row of three, likely dating from the 17th century, with 19th century and late 20th century alterations. The cottages feature whitewashed pebbledashed puddled clay or mud walling, which has been patched with brick, along with additions of whitewashed brick. The roofs are covered with late 20th century shingles and have ridge stacks. Originally, each cottage had a one-unit plan but has been extended to a two-unit plan.

The cottages are one storey with an attic. Cottage No. 23, located on the right, has four ground-floor windows, a plank door, and a two-light window with glazing bars, both of which have deep splayed reveals. It features late 20th century casements throughout and has a lower roof section. The right part includes one- and two-light cross-glazed casements with brick segmental arches. The irregular rear has eyebrow dormers. Inside, the left room has an old ceiling beam and a former open fireplace.

Cottage No. 24, on the left, has one- and three-light cross-glazed casements in deep splayed reveals. It features a two-storey addition to the left with a dentil cornice and a two-span old plain-tile roof. There is a 19th century plank door on the right and a late 20th century open timber porch. A late 20th century three-light casement with glazing bars is present, along with a cross-glazed three-light casement on the first floor. There is a late 20th century single-storey range to the left, but the interior has not been inspected.
