Description

The Old Forge is an 18th-century cottage and former forge located on the west side of Main Street, Thurlaston. Constructed of Flemish bond brick, it has a thatched roof with a brick ridge and an external stack to the left. The building consists of three main units, with a one-unit single-storey range to the right, likely the original forge. A 20th-century ribbed door is set within a thatched rustic porch. The right-hand side features 19th-century three-light casement windows with brick segmental arches. Eyebrow dormers have 2-light wood and iron casements with horizontal glazing bars. A lower range on the left has an altered 17th-century casement and plank shutters. A 20th-century addition to the right is not of architectural significance. The left return side has an external stack with a wide chimney breast, and a timber-framed gable with brick infill. A 19th-century brick lean-to to the rear has a slate roof. The interior has not been inspected.
