Description
The White House is a cottage, originally likely a farmhouse, that is part of a row of buildings and dates from the 16th or 17th century. It is timber framed with braces, whitewashed brick, and some plastered infill. The roof is thatched, and there are 19th-century brick stacks at each end. The building has an L-shaped plan with a wing on the left at the rear. It has one storey and an attic, with two bays. There is a 20th-century door and a seven-light wood and iron casement window with glazing bars immediately to the left. Above this is a swept dormer featuring a two-light cross-glazed casement. The central section has a two-light casement with horizontal glazing bars, while the right part is blank. The return side has casements, and the rear wing projects to the right. The right return side of the wing has been refaced in brick and includes a two-light casement and a swept dormer. The rear features brick infill. There are plank doors to the range and wing. The interior is noted for its exposed framing and chamfered beams.
