Description
The remains of a chimney located 200 metres south of Monwode Lea Farmhouse date back to around 1600. This chimney was part of a house that has since been demolished. It is constructed from squared and coursed red sandstone, with narrow red brick used for the two shafts and the rear walls of the fireplaces. The chimney stack features splayed offsets, V-shaped pilasters, and a projecting capping. There is one remaining fireplace on both the ground and first floors. The ground floor hearth is larger, featuring an ogee head made of stone and a splayed rear wall, while the first floor hearth is smaller but also has an ogee head. A similar chimney stack can be found at Old Farmhouse on Tamworth Road, Over Whitacre. This structure is included for its group value.
