Description
Whateley Hall Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the late 16th century, with an early 17th-century wing, and underwent alterations in the early 19th century. The main range is timber-framed, while the wing is constructed of brick with stone dressings, all rendered. It features a plain-tile roof with a large ridge stack made of thin bricks and additional ridge stacks. The building has an irregular L-plan, with the wing situated on the right side.
The farmhouse is two storeys high and has a three-window main range and a two-window wing. The main range includes a plank door and a large open porch to the left, along with two late 20th-century top-hung casements. The first floor has a 20th-century single-light window and a DIY three-light casement with horizontal glazing bars. There is a one-storey-and-attic range at the angle with a catslide roof.
An early 19th-century six-panelled part-glazed door features wood pilaster strips and an entablature, with a small two-light window above and to the right. The left return side of the wing has a four-panelled door and a 20-pane sash window, with two-light casements above, one of which is from the 19th century. The right return side of the main range displays quoins, two bays of blind windows, and a gable parapet. The rear of the building is irregular, and a French window is accompanied by a porch supported by slender iron columns.
The interior is reported to contain a 17th-century staircase with a balustrade featuring pierced scrolled foliage.
