Description

The building at 5-9 Bolebridge Street comprises two shops with flats above, dating largely from the 17th century, with later alterations and additions. It is constructed of brick with plastered returns, and retains some timber-framing within the core; the roof is tiled. The building is two storeys high, with a four-window front. The ground floor incorporates two 20th-century shop fronts, flanking the entrance to a first-floor flat. The first floor has windows with pegged wooden frames. The right return shows evidence of a collar and tie beam truss with struts concealed under plaster. A large 20th-century addition exists at the rear. Internally, the inner wall of the right end reveals some exposed timber framing. The first floor contains two cross frames, and a roof truss to the rear wing featuring a cambered tie beam. The building is included on the list for its group value.
