Description

The Manor House is a house that has been converted into offices. It underwent early 19th century remodelling but has origins from the 17th and 18th centuries. The building is constructed of brick with ashlar dressings and features a hipped tile roof, showcasing a Georgian style. It has a double-depth central-staircase plan and stands two storeys tall, with a symmetrical five-window range, including two windows at each end that project slightly.

The exterior includes an ashlar plinth and a ground floor sill band, topped with a cornice. The entrance is accessed by three steps and features a doorcase with an architrave, a fluted frieze, and a consoled cornice, along with an overlight above a six-panel door. The windows have rubbed brick flat arches; the ground floor windows are over 12-pane sashes, while the first-floor windows have sills and 12-pane top-hung casements. There are small single-storey wings at each end, each with entrances that have doorcases; the left wing has a stone-coped parapet, and the right wing features a segmental-headed window with a 12-pane sash.

At the rear, there is an architraved entrance with large windows in the forward break to the left, also with 12-pane sashes. The interior has been significantly altered but includes a stick-baluster stair. The Manor House is reputed to have been the home of Sir Thomas Guy, the founder of Guy's Hospital in London and Guy's Almshouses in Tamworth, who also built the Town Hall.
