Description

This is an early 19th century terrace consisting of a public house, shop, and house, with a late 19th century addition. The buildings are constructed of brick with stucco dressings, and have a tile roof with brick stacks. The terrace has two storeys and a seven-window front, divided into three symmetrical sections with a recessed first-floor panel, and a single-window addition to the left end. Number 71 has a stucco facade. Numbers 71 and 72 have late 19th century shop fronts: Number 71's shop front features panelled pilasters, a fascia with bracketed gables, and windows with etched glass flanking a half-glazed door with a lantern. Number 72’s shop front features panelled pilasters, a panelled frieze, acanthus brackets to the cornice, and six-pane windows flanking paired glazed doors. Number 73 has an entrance with a doorcase featuring pilasters, a frieze, and a cornice. Ground floor windows are rusticated wedge lintels; the window to the left end of the ground floor has a 12-pane sash, while those to Number 73 have 16-pane sashes. The first-floor windows have 4/8-pane sashes, although Number 71 has similar top-hung sashes, with a 9-pane sash to the left end. There are two cross-axial stacks and a single end stack. At the rear, Number 71 has a late 19th century wing and an attached stable range, while Numbers 72 and 73 have four gables and small casement windows. Number 71 is included for group value, and the terrace represents a little-altered example.
