Description

Lloyds Bank is a bank building located at No. 17 George Street in Tamworth, constructed around 1910. It is designed in the Georgian Revival style and features brick with ashlar dressings and a graduated slate roof. The building has two storeys and a symmetrical five-window facade.

The exterior includes a rusticated plinth and a top entablature adorned with an egg and dart motif along the cornice, as well as a balustrade and coped gables. The entrance on the left side has an architrave and a frieze with the lettering "LLOYDS BANK/ CHAMBERS," along with paired fielded-panel doors and a 12-pane overlight that has an architrave, frieze, and consoled cornice. The entrance on the right side features an architrave with bead and reel moulding, a frieze, and a consoled cornice, with an overlight that has fishscale glazing and paired fielded-panel doors. Above this entrance is a panel displaying a black-horse badge.

The ground floor windows have architraves, friezes, and consoled cornices, and consist of 12/8-pane horned sashes that have been altered for the insertion of cashpoints. The first-floor windows are architraved and feature 16-pane horned sashes. A plaster band above the ground floor displays the letters "LLOYDS BANK."

Inside, the bank features fluted pilasters on plinths and a panelled ceiling with bead and reel detailing in the mouldings. The building is included for its group value.
