Description
The east tunnel entrance on the Leek arm of the Caldon Canal was built in 1801 and designed by engineer John Rennie. It features rusticated ashlar stonework and has a slightly curved retaining wall topped with a plain cornice and terminal piers. The entrance to the tunnel is a steep elliptical arch, which is accentuated by a rock-faced keystone above the arch.
