Description

Belmont Hall is a large house dating to approximately 1760, with alterations and additions from the early 19th century. It is located on Belmont Road in Ipstones. The house is constructed of coursed sandstone, rendered except for the service wing, and sits on a plinth. It has a hipped tile roof with an eaves band, and rendered ridge stacks. The overall layout forms a large, reverse "J" shape, with the main block forming the top stroke. The front facing the approach, and the garden, is asymmetrical, featuring a projecting three-story, three-sided three-window bay to the left and a lower, set-back two-story wing to the right, also of three windows. All windows are glazing bar sashes, with taller windows on the ground floor of the bay and square windows above. The entrance front has two stories and an attic, and also features three glazing bar sashes, with tripartite sashes on the ground floor. A small, 19th-century Corinthian portico and part-glazed door surrounds the central entrance. An extensive service wing to the west has eight windows and three entrances. The building has group value—contributing to the character of its surroundings.
