Description
The Bath House, located approximately 400 meters southeast of Basford Hall, is a recreational building designed to resemble a folly. It was built in the early 19th century and has undergone minor alterations in the 20th century. The structure features rock-faced coursed stone and a steeply-pitched shaped tile roof, with roll-crested verge parapets supported by corbelled kneelers. There are twin-shafted stacks at the left end and a ridge stack on the right. A string course runs at the first-floor level, and the building has a two-storey plus attic height with a three-window front.
On the left side, there is a small slightly projecting gable that includes a single-light attic window above a labelled two-light stone mullioned window on the first floor. The larger projecting gable on the right has a single-light upper attic window above two and three-light windows below. Both gables feature Tudor-arch entrances with 20th-century glazed doors. The wide central recess contains a four-light stone mullion window on the first floor above a taller transomed window on the ground floor, with single-light transomed windows at each end of the building.
At the rear and northeast, which is less visible from the approach, there are crenellated square and octagonal towers facing a small lake. This unusual planning appears to have been intended to create a view that was never fully realized. The interior of the building once included a heated swimming pool and service quarters for guests of Basford Hall, the residence of the Sneyd family.
