Description
Nos. 2, 4, and 6 Cross Street is a terrace of three houses and shops built in the early 19th century, with minor alterations from the 20th century. The buildings are constructed of red brick, with Nos. 2 and 4 rendered, and feature a hipped slate roof with end stacks. The terrace is three stories high and has a four-window front, with glazing bar sashes that have painted wedged heads.
The terrace is divided into two parts: Nos. 2 and 4 each have one window that is widely spaced. No. 2 features an early 19th-century shop front with a cornice and pilasters above a plate glass window and a part-glazed door. No. 4, which does not have a shop front, has a casement window instead of a ground floor sash and an entrance to the right that includes a hood and pilastered surround, with a round arch over a fanlight and a six-panel door. No. 6, located to the left, has two narrowly spaced windows and a 19th-century shop front with a hood and plate glass window, along with a segmental-headed entrance to the right. This terrace forms a group with No. 55 High Street.
