Description
No. 1 Cross Street is a shop built in the early to mid-19th century, with some later alterations. The building is constructed of red brick, featuring banded detailing at the cill levels and painted render on the ground floor. It has a low-pitched hipped slate roof and a dentilled cornice. The structure is three stories high and has a three-window front that is chamfered at the corners. The windows are plate glass sashes with painted, wedged, segmental heads, although the center window is now blocked. On the ground floor, there are two wide openings with inset pilasters at the corners; the right-hand window still has glazing bars with margin lights. The entrance is located to the right, featuring an overlight, and there is also an entrance on the chamfered angle of the building to the left. Additionally, there is a further front with two windows that face High Street but are set back from it. This building occupies a prominent position in the town center at the corner of High Street and Cross Street, directly facing the Market Cross.
