Description
This barn, located approximately 26 meters south-west of Stonelowe Hall, dates back to the 17th century and has undergone later alterations and additions. It is constructed from coursed and dressed rubble and features blue machine tile roofs, with verge parapets that have moulded copings and ball finials. The barn has a rectangular plan, with two levels including a hay loft over a shippon that is now used as a store.
The front of the barn is tall and short, with a double hay loft door positioned to the left of center. To the right, there is a 2-light casement window and a sliding door to the left below. The upper level has two rows of vents. There is a single-storey stone addition with two windows to the left and a two-level blockwork addition with one window set back to the right.
It has been suggested that this barn may have served as a manorial prison or lock-up, a theory supported by the current owner as of September 1984, who mentions reports of phantom footsteps heard by various witnesses. However, the search for evidence of this theory remains unfulfilled.
