Description
The lodge to Ashcombe Park, dated 1852 on the left gable, is a single-storey building with an attic, constructed from rock-faced red sandstone ashlar. It features a shaped tile roof with a crested ridge, widely projecting eaves, and verges adorned with cusped and fretted barge boards and finials. The central ridge has a twin-shafted octagonal stack. The lodge has a cruciform plan and a three-window front, with a slightly projecting gable offset to the right that includes a small attic window above a similarly projecting gabled porch. The porch has a Tudor-arch entrance and displays the Sneyd coat-of-arms in the apex. To the left, there is a longer wing with two small stone transomed windows. A three-sided hipped stone-roofed bay window faces the road gable frontage. This lodge is noted as a complete example of its type.
