Description
St Bernard's House, formerly known as the Stafford Catholic Club, is a house dating from around 1810 that has been converted into an office. It is built of rendered brick with stucco dressings and features a tiled roof with rebuilt brick end stacks. The building has a double-depth plan with a rear wing and is designed in the Georgian style. It stands three storeys tall and has a two-window range. Notable architectural features include stucco lintel bands and end pilaster strips. The entrance, located to the left of the centre, has a round-headed doorcase with pilasters, entablature blocks, and an open pediment, topped with a fanlight that has radial glazing bars above a six-panel door. The windows are fitted with sills and stucco surrounds that create a quoin effect; the ground floor windows have 12-pane sashes, the first floor has 9-pane sashes, and the second floor features 8-pane sashes. The rear of the building includes a gabled wing.
