Description
The entrance lodge at Lawnswood House, built in 1839, features curved walling and gate piers. Constructed of brick with stucco render designed to resemble ashlar, it is topped with a slate roof.
The lodge has a roughly cruciform shape with an octagonal turret on the north side. The principal façade faces south-west and includes a single-storey projecting entrance porch with a pediment above. The central entrance door is recessed and flanked by stone steps, with a cornice supported by consoles. The octagonal turret to the north has several blind windows, with three on the first floor and three on the ground floor. The ground floor features a central window with a pediment supported by consoles, flanked by two windows, one of which is blind, and two narrow blind lights in between. The first floor has three round-headed windows with hood moulding, again with the most westerly being blind and two blind narrow lights in between. The north-east elevation includes a central projecting bay with a hipped roof, and to the left is a lean-to roof covering the rear entrance.
Inside, the ground floor contains a kitchen and two reception rooms, both featuring late 20th-century fireplaces. Some original joinery remains, including built-in cupboards in one reception room and shutters in the entrance hall and the south-east reception room. The first floor has two bedrooms that retain their 19th-century sash windows.
