Description

Wordsley Manor is a late 18th-century red brick mansion. It is a good example of its type, with three storeys and a slightly projecting central three-windowed bay. This central bay is topped by a dentilled pediment containing a circular window. The facade has five sash windows in total, with cambered and channelled lintels, flat soffites, and stone architraves incorporating segmental pediments. Sill bands are present, as is a moulded stone eaves cornice and a parapet. A Tuscan column portico with a triglyph frieze and modillion pediment leads to a doorway with panelled reveals, an enriched semi-circular fanlight, a multi-panelled door, and stone steps. The east-facing side has a Venetian window at its centre. The interior is largely unaltered and contains a good staircase. Early or mid-19th century outbuildings are set back on the right and left returned sides. The right-hand outbuilding has a hipped slate roof, a glazed lantern, and a wind vane. The left-hand block is dilapidated but retains a parapet with stone-framed quatrefoil openings. Both outbuildings, which have splayed ends to the front, are linked to the main house by brick screen walls that are part concave on plan and contain semi-circular headed niches.
