Description

This is a canal milepost located approximately 40 yards north of Avenue Bridge, part of the Shropshire Union Canal, which was opened in 1843 and engineered by Thomas Telford. The milepost is made of cast iron and features a T-shaped plate divided into three panels. The inscriptions on the panels indicate the distances to Nantwich (35 miles), Autherley Junction (4 miles), and Norbury Junction (10½ miles).
