Description

Old Smithy Cottage is a house dating back to the 14th century, with later alterations and additions. It is an irregular timber-framed building featuring massive arch braces and a steeply pitched clay tile roof, with brick stacks. Originally a hall house, the central two bays now have a first floor inserted. A timber-framed bay was added around 1600 at the north end, and an early 18th-century brick bay at the south end, with a further timber-framed bay to the rear dating to the 17th century. The house has two storeys and four windows, with glazing bar casements. Inside, a 17th-century staircase with turned balusters is present, along with a moulded crown post roof.
