Description

Castlecroft Farmhouse is an early 18th-century farmhouse located in Lower Penn, facing west on Radford Lane. The building is constructed of painted brick with a plain tile roof and brick external lateral stacks to the rear, alongside an internal end stack. It is two storeys and an attic in height, originally with three casement windows featuring segmental heads and leaded panes. A C19 bracketed bow window has been added to the ground floor left, and a gabled attic dormer to the right. A central gabled porch, likely dating to around 1840, features ‘Tudor’ arch openings on the front and sides. A two-storey single-bay wing is attached to the right, incorporating casement windows and a blocked segmental-headed door. A lean-to dairy extension is present to the left. The rear of the farmhouse, which faces the road, is dominated by a pair of large lateral chimney stacks flanking the back door. Inside, a winder staircase is located directly in front of the entrance door, and the interior features chamfered spine beams with run-out stops. A cheese press remains in the dairy.
