Description
The Old Malt House, located to the north of Wightwick Manor, is a former malthouse that has been converted into an education centre. It dates from the late 16th century or early 17th century and was restored for Theodore Mander in the late 19th century. The building is constructed of brick with red brick dressings and features a tiled roof. It stands two storeys high and has a five-window range. The brick mullioned windows, mostly with two lights, have cusped heads and show signs of earlier window openings with timber lintels. There is a canopied entrance that includes a wide-boarded door.
On the left side of the building, there is a large five-light window with two transoms on the first floor, situated above bee boles and an entrance, with dovecote openings to the left. The rear wing has a first-floor entrance under a gable with wide verges, and the rear and right returns are similar in style.
Inside, the building features a fruit room with panelling and shelves, a darkroom with a sink and sliding shutters, and on the first floor, there is a 19th-century fireplace and queen post trusses. The Old Malt House has been restored as part of the setting for Wightwick Manor.
