Description

Cheslyn Hay War Memorial is a war memorial featuring a rough-hewn obelisk made of Cornish granite, which stands on a square plinth. This plinth is placed on a rough-hewn square base with projecting blocks at each corner. The inscriptions are made with lead lettering.

On the front face of the plinth, the inscription reads: "THIS MEMORIAL / WAS ERECTED BY PUBLIC / SUBSCRIPTION TO THE MEMORY / OF THE MEN OF CHESLYN HAY / WHO FELL IN THE GREAT WAR / 1914 – 1918. / “THEIR NAMES LIVE FOR EVERMORE.” / (NAMES)." The three plaques on the other faces also display the names of the fallen.

Additionally, there is a plaque on the base dedicated to those who fell in the Second World War, which states: "ALSO TO THE MEMORY OF / THE FOLLOWING MEN / WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES / IN THE SECOND WORLD WAR / 1939 – 1945 / (NAMES)."

The memorial is situated on a sandstone paved area, surrounded by a metal wreath holder at its base. Granite posts at each corner provide protection for the memorial.
