Description

The Crystal Fountain Public House is a public house built in 1937 for Mitchells and Butlers by Linford's of Cannock. It is constructed of brown brick and features a pantile hipped roof behind a parapet with moulded stone coping, along with brick axial stacks that have moulded stone cornices. The building has an L-shaped plan with three separate bars, each served by a central servery, and is designed in a Neo-Georgian style.

The exterior is two storeys high with a symmetrical four-bay front. The ground floor features three tall multipane windows in moulded architraves, with the outer two having scrolled keystones. There are doorways to the left and right with architraves and panelled doors, along with oculi above each doorway. The first floor has three 3-light casements with glazing bars at the centre. At the rear, there is a loggia with round arches.

The interior is very complete and retains its original furnishings and unaltered plan. The front area has two bars, which are now linked by an arch added around 1970. The public bar on the right was originally a gentlemen-only bar. The bar front and much of the back fittings are contemporary, with similarly detailed panelling in the lobby and reeded doorcases. Original seating includes curved upholstered benches.
