Description
75 and 77 High Street is a former bank and offices, originally built as dwellings in the late 18th century. The building underwent significant modifications in the early 20th century, including the addition of a new ground floor. It is constructed of red brick with plain tiled eaves and has three storeys with seven bays. The central window features a moulded architrave. The ground floor has a shop front dating from around 1910, made of banded brick and stone, and includes a stone hood over a bolection moulded doorcase. The shop front displays Art Nouveau style lettering that reads "National Provincial Bank," accompanied by foliage and a sculpted head above. The building is topped with a modillion eaves cornice. Inside, the ground floor features an Adam-style plaster ceiling, which was likely moved from its original location on the first floor.
