Description
This fountain, located in Museum Gardens, was built in 1871 and presented by Reverend Chancellor Law. It is made of ashlar and iron and features a round basin with a rusticated surround that has four projections designed for couched lions. The central bowl is set on a pier with an octagonal base, adorned with naturalistic herons, fish, and reed mace, and has egg-and-dart moulding on the capital. The basin, shaped like foliage, supports a figure with two fish tails and a wreath around its head, which is blowing a conical shell. This fountain is a notable example of craftsmanship in iron.
