Description
The Edward VII Statue, located in Museum Gardens, was created in 1908 by Robert Bridgeman. It is made of ashlar stone and stands on a round plinth that features an entablature adorned with rosettes along the frieze and a dentilled cornice. The plinth has four projections that support pilaster strips with scrolled bases and lion's masks, each holding rings with pendants of fruit. Panels on the statue display the names of Empire dominions: Canada, India, South Africa, and Australia. The front of the statue includes the lettering "EDWARD VII," with a crown above and the Lichfield arms below. The cap of the statue is topped with cornice ball finials. The statue itself depicts the king in garter robes, bare-headed and holding a sceptre.
