Description

Bridge Number 56 is a canal road bridge located on Tuppenhurst Lane, built in the late 18th century. It is constructed of red brick with stone coping and features a single span with a humped back and a segmental headed arch. The bridge has swept wings that end in piers at all four corners, and it includes stone springing stones. There have been minor repairs, including parts of the coping. The Trent and Mersey Canal, which this bridge spans, was constructed between 1766 and 1777 by engineers James Brindley and Hugh Henshall.
