Description

Bridge Number 59 is a canal accommodation bridge located off Old Road. It dates from the late 18th century and is constructed of red brick with stone coping. The bridge features a single span with a humped back and a segmental headed arch. It has swept wings that terminate in piers at all four corners, and stone springing stones. There have been minor repairs, including small sections of the parapet and coping. The Trent and Mersey Canal, which this bridge serves, was built between 1766 and 1777 by James Brindley and Hugh Henshall.
