Description

Elford Bridge West is a road bridge, likely built in the 16th century with later alterations. It is constructed of red brick and ashlar. The bridge features seven semi-circular arches that span the River Tame, with the central arch being larger than the others. The arches are supported by cutwaters that rise as buttresses, and those beside the central arch include refuges. There is a parapet band leading to a plain parapet. Elford Bridge West now crosses the remnants of an ox-bow lake, which was the former course of the river. This bridge was replaced in the 18th century by Elford Bridge East when the river changed its course.
