Description
The Cottage is a late 17th-century cottage located in Elford, facing northwest. It is constructed with a timber frame and rendered infill panels, topped with a plain tile roof and featuring a brick central off-ridge stack. The building consists of two framed bays aligned in a north-east/south-west direction. Originally a single storey with an attic, the eaves level has been raised to create a second storey, with two square panels at the original eaves level and straight braces. There are two windows with late 19th-century glazing bar casements and a 20th-century door positioned to the left of center. The left-hand (north-east) gable reveals a partly exposed roof truss, which includes vertical struts between the collar and tie beam. Inside, the central roof truss features V-struts above the collar and once supported an angled ridge piece. The interior also boasts a large open fireplace and stopped and chamfered ceiling beams. The Cottage is included for its group value.
