Description
This is a house located at 1 The Close, built around 1835. It is constructed of brick with ashlar dressings and features a tiled roof with coped gables and brick end stacks, designed in the Jacobean style. The house has two storeys and presents a symmetrical three-window facade. It has an offset plinth, a continuous label mould at the first floor, and a top stone-coped brick parapet with a central coped gable.
The entrance is Tudor-headed, with chamfered reveals and a label mould, leading to a half-glazed door. The windows are double-chamfered-mullioned, featuring label moulds, with three lights on the ground floor and two lights on the first floor. The stacks have diagonal shafts. The gable displays an ashlar shield bearing the arms of the Diocese.
On the left side, there is a projecting stack with flanking first-floor lights beneath the continuation of the label mould from the front. A stone-coped area wall includes a Tudor-headed entrance with a plank door. The rear of the house has plain stone eaves and an attached garage with a hipped roof, along with a plain rear stack.
