Description

Cruck House is a house that now serves as an old people's day centre. It likely dates from the late 15th century or early 16th century and was restored in 1971. The building features a timber frame and a dressed stone plinth with a tiled roof. It has a two-bay cruck construction and is a single storey with a half loft. There are two windows with two lights each, along with an upper window that has three lights, all featuring leaded glazing.

On the left side, there is a cruck truss with a tie beam, cruck spurs, a collar, and a yoke with a short king post. This side also has two windows with two lights each and a three-light window above. The right side is similar, with braces to the king post and a two-plus-two-light window on the ground floor. At the rear, there is an entrance with a 20th-century glazed porch that connects to a terrace behind, along with two two-plus-two-light windows and one two-light window. Some timber has been renewed, particularly the sill plates and rear framing.

Inside, there is a cruck truss with upper framing that is partly filled in, and a 20th-century partition below. The building has single purlins with wind braces and a chamfered beam beneath the loft. Cruck House is a rare survival in the Lichfield area and has been restored to its original form, having formed two cottages before its restoration and conversion.
