Description
Cael Cottage is a cottage that was originally a pair of cottages, dating from the 17th century with later remodelling. It features painted brick over an earlier timber frame and has a plain tile roof with brick stacks at the ends. The building has a two-bay lobby entry plan and is one storey with an attic. There are two windows with casement frames, the ground floor windows having segmental heads, and tile-hung gabled dormers in the attic adorned with barge boards. There is a blocked door on the left and a door on the right, both with segmental heads.
Inside, the cottage has stopped and chamfered ceiling beams, a former inglenook fireplace, and a square panelled timber-framed partition that divides the two bays. There is also a timber-framed partition on the north side of the attic passage. The roof truss features a tie beam interrupted by two vertical posts on the south side, a slightly curved central vertical strut above the collar, and a single pair of purlins along with a ridge piece.
