Description

Smallwood Manor is a country house, built in 1886 by R.W. Edis, and now used as a school. It is constructed of red brick with yellow terracotta detailing, and has a plain tile roof with brick stacks. The house is designed in the Elizabethan style, with two storeys and an attic. The facade is arranged with three bays, where most of the gables have shaped tops, the central and right-hand ones having finialed semi-circular pediments. A central porch rises above the other gables and is flanked by octagonal turrets with shaped caps. The entrance is round-headed, with smaller round-headed arches on either side, each with a fanlight containing radiating glazing bars. The windows are ovolo-moulded, mullioned, and transomed, with four-light mullioned windows in the attic. A lateral chimney is present in the centre of the right-hand bay.
