Description

Christmas Cottage is a 17th-century cottage with later additions, situated near Birch Cross in Marchington. The cottage is timber-framed, resting on a stone plinth, and has thatched roofs with brick ridge stacks. It is one storey and attic in height, featuring two square panels extending to the eaves. The original layout likely comprised two framed bays, with two ground-floor windows and three dormers, each featuring casement windows. A central door is sheltered by a gabled timber-framed porch with a thatched roof. A single-storey extension to the left incorporates a long, five-light window, while a two-bay extension to the right mimics timber framing. The original 17th-century section of the house has queen strut roof trusses with a central vertical strut above the collar.
