Description

Callingwood Hall is a large house, largely dating to the mid-19th century with alterations from the late 19th century and substantial additions. It may incorporate an earlier core. The front facade is rendered brickwork with a tiled roof, partially hidden behind a parapet. The two-storey front is divided into two parts. The right side features a mid-19th century block of four windows, framed by octagonal pilasters. It has a plinth and raised bands at the first-floor and ceiling levels, and a deep crenellated parapet. This section has two-light stone mullioned casement windows with leaded panes. The left side is an L-shaped wing from the late 19th or early 20th century, containing four sash windows. It features a widely projecting gable of two windows and a central stack on the extreme left. The mid-19th century style is repeated across two more bays. The entrance is in a single-storey porch, also with turret-like pilasters, located immediately behind this section, and backed against a possibly earlier wing that has been refaced with two Tudor-arched windows.
