Description

The Fletcher Methodist Church, built in 1841, is a large chapel constructed in a classical style. It is built of buff-coloured brick with painted stone dressings. The prominent front features a three-bay pediment with giant brick pilasters and round-arched windows recessed within. Flanked by pilastered and pedimented doorways on the left and right, the pediment itself bears the inscription “Wesleyan Chapel MDCCCXCI” above a circular opening with a cast-iron grille. The side elevation has five bays, also with round-arched windows recessed within recesses, all set within cast-iron multi-pane window frames. The roof is slate. The church includes the surrounding forecourt, with railings supported by a dwarf brick wall featuring piers and a central gate. Inside, a panelled gallery runs along three sides, supported by slim, fluted cast-iron columns.
